GFX-BASE

GFX-BASE review of the Kickstart Archives (09.02.2003)

Overall

TKA does not mean hours, not days, but weeks (maybe even months?) of entertainment and enjoyment. No matter if you are a die-hard Amiga fan or have used an A500 in the good old days. The balance between nostalgia, edu- and entertainment aswell as useful stuff for active Amiga fans is just perfect. The compilation also contains extremely rare websites, that are not available anymore on the web (except for Googles cache maybe). Not only for this reason owning the Kickstart Archives should be a must for every Amiga and ex-Amiga user - in fact it documents a very important stage in Computer history. What are you waiting for, 10 EURO is more than fair for this excellent product, that Thomas Unger carefully has composed here with lots of love and focus on detail.

Score: 10/10

AMIGA ACTIVE - ISSUE 19

Consisting mostly of web sites, all containing various accounts of the Amiga's history - both anecdotal and technical - the Kickstart Archives is a mine of information. If it isn't on this CD-ROM, changes are it didn't happen or never existed: a bit of an exaggeration, maybe, but there are literally hundreds of documents from dozens of sources to read through, in either English or German (mostly English). grouped into topics...

There's a lot in The Kickstart Archives that many will already know, but there's also a lot of information that you won't be familiar with, or had forgotten about years ago. Like the Walker. Definitely a mine of information, then, but how much gold you find will depend on the knowledge you already have, and your willingness to hunt for gems. Just remember to set your alarm for tea- time.

AMIGA aktuell - Das deutsche Amiga Infotainment-Magazin (12/2000)

AMIGA aktuell - The international Amiga infotainment magazine (12/2000)

The "Kickstart Archives" are, even in version 0.9, an almost bottomless source of information about our favourite computer for an acceptable price. Thomas Unger sees this CD-ROM as a pure hobby project and sells the "Kickstart Archives" for a cost price of 20,- DM or 10,- US-$. He (Thomas Unger) produces and mails copies upon request. If you are interested in solid background information besides the software, you can read for hours. In spite of the noted HTML problem, a well done and recommendable CD-ROM.
